Second Thoughts in Black and White.

George Holt Thomas
Join Dave Scott for his latest talk on the aviation industry in Wycombe. Holt Thomas created AIRCO an Aircraft Manufacturing Company, and in 1914 he employed Geoffrey de Havilland as his Chief Designer. AIRCO and their sub-contractors (including E. Gomme in High Wycombe) had built over 10,700 aeroplanes by the end of 1920, the majority having been built during World War 1. He founded Air Transport & Travel, one of the World`s first airlines, that in 1919, operated the World`s first international regular scheduled air service. Tracing the History of a Village
The people, the streets. the churches, the workplaces, the shops and the public buildings - there are so many aspects to explore in a village to uncover its fascinating history. Kirsty Gray, the village detective, documents the sources available to trace the history of villages, with particular reference to Bourne End, and how genealogical and historical records can be used to build up a comprehensive picture of a community from the 18th century to the 21st. Cabaret Night
West-End star Anita Louise Combe is renowned for being one of the few actresses who has played both Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly in Chicago on stage. She is also responsible for originating the roles of Betty in Sunset Boulevard and Stephanie in the world premiere of Saturday Night Fever, starring opposite Adam Garcia. Anita will be supported by Mark Morgan. He has played the title role in Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Joseph, in both the West-End and on tour around the UK. Mawkin
Five piece folk rebels. Their bold new sound mixes the instrumental roots and the traditional folk songs of the British Isles, reworking them for a modern audience. Marlow Jazz Club
One of Marlow Jazz Club's most popular stars, saxophonist Art Themen, widely known as "Doctor Jazz" as result of his double life as a top bone surgeon, will back, lining up alongside another extrovert sax player, Benn Clatworthy. Benn was born in this country, was tutored by the great Ronnie Scott, but left for the States at an early age where he has become a big name on the West Coast Jazz Scene, and this date is part of a short tour back in his homeland. He has met up with Art on just a couple of previous occasions and some explosive music has resulted. The two stars have both requested the highly regarded John Donaldson to accompany them on piano, and they will be joined by the Club's regular drummer Denis Smith; whilst playing bass will be another top name - Andy Crowdy. Auditions for Fawlty Towers
Following the success of the 2009 production at The Court Theatre, Tring, the team is pleased to announce that they will once again be presenting three episodes in one production: A Touch of Class, The Builders  and The Germans. These are open auditions for anyone to attend; they will be looking for a close mimic of the classic characters Basil, Sybil, Manuel, Polly and the Major with a little more flexibility around the cameo roles within these episodes such as Mr O’Reilly & Lord Melbury. They are not looking for your interpretation of the character so it is recommended you study the episodes and characters prior to auditioning. Rehearsals will be on Sundays from 10am to 12pm at Marsworth Millennium Hall with show week commencing Sunday June 22 at The Court Theatre, Tring. Audition pieces are available on request. The Mayor's Charity Ball
Cllr Trevor Snaith is hosting the ball as Mayor of High Wycombe, and proceeds this year will go to Child Bereavement UK and One Can Trust.
