A CHARITY is set to open a new counselling centre this month, aiming to help people struggling with overwhelming debt.
It will be one of 15 places opening a Christians Against Poverty centre in March, joining another in the region helping people in Chesham, Amersham, Beaconsfield - which expanded last month to cover Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross.
CAP has partnered with King's Church in Desborough Road to bring its service to the area.
High Wycombe centre manager Ian Bickerstaffe said: "The Church has always been about offering hope and we're really pleased to be able to give a tried-and-tested route out of debt alongside other great free debt advice in the area like Citizens Advise.
"There is a lot in the Bible about looking after the poorest. In our society, a lot of poverty is debt-related so our congregation has been working hard to open a CAP centre to help get people back on track."
CAP aims to offer an in-depth, caring service to those with spiralling personal debt regardless of their age, gender, faith or background. Each client is visited in thier own home and the charity does all the negotiating with the creditors. Local volunteers offer support to each person face-to-face until the day they are debt free.
