AN EXPLOSION of science will engulf a Marlow school next week as it plays host to an exclusive gathering for all things scientific.

Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School has been chosen as the setting for this year’s Big Bang schools event for the south-east of England.

The exhibition on Tuesday, March 18  sees hundreds of students present their projects in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

STEM co-ordinator Erica Barclay said: “All the young people have been working on the projects in their own time. It’s a totally free choice and we can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with.

“We are a performing arts school but there are as many kids choosing to do science so it’s great to see it being promoted.

“This if the one Big Bang event in the south east of England so it’s great kudos to have been chosen.”

The annual academic celebration of aims to raise awareness, improve perception and inspire young people to consider careers in STEM disciplines.

Representatives from scientific and professional associations, education and outreach organisations will attend to talk to pupils about their options for pursuing science-related courses and careers.

And Borlase students are all submitting projects for Bronze or Silver Crest awards – a nationally recognised certificate run by the British Science Association.

The event is part of the Big Bang South East programme, coordinated by STEM Sussex at the University of Brighton.
