FRESH advice has been issued this week to residents affected by last month’s devastating floods as the clean up continues.

Residents affected by sewer flooding can contact Thames Water, which is able to provide help with the clean-up process.

If water affecting gardens, driveways or the inside of homes has now subsided, call 0845 9200 800 and response teams can assist with clearing any sewer litter and disinfecting floors.

Homes along Pound Lane, Quarrydale Drive and other low lying areas have all seen problems with backed-up sewers spewing raw sewage into the street.

Wycombe District Council, which delivered thousands of sandbags to flood-threatened residents, is urging residents to keep hold of sandbags if they have room to store them, but only if the bags have not been contaminated by floodwater.

Used bags will be collected by council teams, though due to the numbers involved, able-bodied residents are asked to return them to where they were collected.

Alternatively, people can add them to the pile of bags forming in Court Garden Car Park, which acted as the hub for the multi-agency relief effort.

Residents are also urged to offer help to elderly or less able neighbours who may have stocks of sandbags to return.

A Council spokesman said:: "Wycombe District Council’s contractors, Serco, have started the clear-up of flood debris and sandbags from Marlow.

"Please bear with us as we undertake this task which may take some time due to the large number of sandbags requiring removal."

If sandbags have been contaminated, they should be ideally handled with gloves, and affected clothes should be washed on a separate cycle to avoid the spread of bacteria commonly found in standing floodwater.
