Church spreads happiness

Bucks Free Press: Church spreads happiness Church spreads happiness

A CHURCH in Princes Risborough spread happiness throughout the town last week, with cakes, chocolates and song.

The Chilterns Christian Fellowship, an Elim Church, based at The Oasis Centre in Bell Street held a week of activities to celebrate the UN's International Day of Happiness.

Reverend Wendy Pawsey said: "It was absolutely brilliant- really good.

"We estimated we managed to reach and impact approximately 300 people, which is much more than we originally anticipated.

"It just seemed to grow."

There was a lunch for 18 to 30-year-olds, a cream tea at Gatensbury with entertainment from the Princes Risborough Primary School's choir, whose repertoire included Happy by Pharrell Williams.

Reverend Pawsey said parents and toddlers particularly enjoyed free massages from a masseuse called Natalie, with activities led by Barnado's.

Cakes were delivered to all three staff rooms at Princes Risborough Secondary School and cakes and chocolates were given to parents at Breakout club.

A men's curry, comedy and Christianity night was held on Friday, and there was a family movie morning and a Be Happy Sunday morning service.

Reverend Pawsey said: "It is something we want to do again next year.

"Happiness is one of those things people don't generally think about.

"As Christians we are not continually happy- emotions depend on your external circumstances- but we do have the joy of the Lord in our hearts.

"To be able to go out and share that is really good."

The Elim Church is a Christian Church. They believe God’s promises in the Bible about the Holy Spirit and healing were for Christians today and miracles continue to happen.
