A POLICE chief is appealing for donations of sports equipment and kit after he was made patron of a charity in the Caribbean.

Chief Inspector Colin Seaton said he was “honoured” to have been made a patron of the White Hall Police Youth Club in St Elizabeth, Jamaica.

The club has been running since 2011 and is trying to develop the sporting activities it provides to its 60 members, which are mostly young people under the age of 25, but it doesn’t have the funds to buy any equipment.

The Deputy Commander for the Wycombe Police Area is urging individuals or organisations with unwanted sports equipment to send it his way so it can shipped out to the Caribbean to help keep youngsters off the streets.

He said: “It was a real honour to have been asked, I was really pleased as my parents are from Jamaica and a lot of my family is still there, so I feel quite proud that they’ve asked me to help them.

“The police officers there try to keep the kids off the street but it’s not a particularly affluent area so there’s not a lot to do and the youngsters end up hanging around on the street.

“So they’re after sports kit or equipment – footballs, cricket balls, bats, netballs, tennis rackets etc – it doesn’t matter what condition, or how old it is, as long as it is still usable.”

If you would like to donate any equipment to the charity visit the police station in Queen Victoria Road in High Wycombe.
