A YOGA teacher from Marlow has raised over £1000 for her son’s school after organising a sold-out event to practice the ancient art.

Alexandra Alves welcomed around 70 people to her ‘Yoga by Candlelight’ session on Saturday, March 15, at Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School.

The instructor, whose 15-year-old son attends the school, pulled in over £1000 for Borlase’s Above and Beyond fund, which is seeking cash to refurbish the theatre at the performing arts academy.

She said: “It was a major success, it was fully booked and there wasn’t any even space for one more mat.

“I’m very pleased, and I really enjoyed the day. They have asked me to come back again in September and I’m prepared to the same again for any other school that wants to raise money.”

As well as parents, friends and students, Marlow Mayor Suzanne Brown came along to join in the fun.

Ms Alves said she has been in talks with Great Marlow School about the possibility of repeating the fundraising drive, which sees everyone from beginners to advanced yoga pupils practice the art by candlelight, with piano accompaniment.
