PLANS to demolish the old Post Office building in Princes Risborough and replace it with shops and flats have been given the go-ahead.

Wycombe District Council’s Planning Committee approved revised plans for the Bell Street project, overriding a conservation study calling the delivery office post a ‘significant building’ for the town.

The new town centre building will include ground floor retail space as well as five flats on the first floor.

Cllr Gary Hall, who was in favour of the plan, said: “I am pleased with the re-design, it looks to be very attractive with the pitched roof.”

The Risborough councillor also queried a condition which prevented the new grocery store accepting deliveries on Sundays, claiming it may make selling fresh produce commercially unviable.

There was concern over limited space for large delivery vehicles to turn round in the building’s car park, but councillors felt it should not prevent the application going ahead.
