TESCO is set to open another Express store in High Wycombe.

The supermarket giant has agreed to take on the convenience store which is currently being built on the former Chapel Lane petrol station.

Tesco spokesman Bryn Woodward said: “This is a developer led scheme and it has been approved by the district council.

“We are keen to open a store in the retail unit and we will be submitting minor works to allow us to do so in the next few months.”

Chapel Lane resident Ann-Marie Gomme said she fears the development will block out the sunlight from her house and will cause mayhem on the roundabout, with additional traffic and lorries visiting the site.

She said: “I’m not against a Tesco store but we were never made aware just how high it would be, we were never given any information other than to say it would be a convenience shop – it will overlook my house.

“It never went to [Wycombe District Council] planning committee; it was just approved, despite it being on an extremely busy roundabout and the pathway isn’t in operation there at the moment, it’s very dangerous.”

Peter Goldstein from Aurum Real Estate said the firm followed the appropriate planning laws and the store was only approved after months of negotiations with WDC, which ordered a number of alterations.

He added a temporary pathway through the site linking Chapel Lane and Mill End Road would be put in place for pedestrians.
