TWO consultants at Wycombe Hospital took to rowing machines to battle against each other.

Cardiology consultants Piers Clifford and Soroosh Firoozan competed in a rowing challenge to be the first to reach 2,500 metres last week to raise money for Scannappeal.

A crowd watched the challenge at the hospital- each paid a £1 entrance fee.

Dr Firoozan was named the winner with a time of 10 minutes 21 seconds, with Dr Clifford hot on his heels with a time of 11 minutes.

Dr Firoozan said: "It was a fun thing to do. It sets a great example when a cardiac consultant takes part in exercise and raises a lot of money for the appeal."

Magnanimous in defeat, Dr Clifford said: "I’m gutted to lose to a colleague but would like to congratulate him on his years of personal training for this crucial event which has raised hundreds of pounds for a very good cause."

The pair raised about £2,000 for the Scannappeal Laser Heart Appeal, which aims to raise £100k for advanced diagnosis and treatment equipment of angina and heart attacks.

The rowathon was organised by cardiology nurse Nicola Bowers as part of her fundraising ahead of her London Marathon run. You can still contribute at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/NicBowers
