POLICE are launching an Easter event to raise home-safety concerns and to keep South Bucks safe.

The Thames Valley Police Easter burglary campaign starts today and will continue for almost three weeks.

The aim of the campaign is to help prevent people becoming victims of crime.

Neighbourhood Inspector Emma Burroughs said: “Chiltern and South Buckinghamshire is one of the safest places to live and we work extremely hard to keep it that way by reducing the number of victims of crime and detecting as many crimes as possible.

“We rely on people being aware of what is happening in their local areas and reporting any suspicious behaviour straight away.”

Police are explaining to residents the importance of keeping all properties secure, including your home, outbuildings and sheds.

Inspector Burroughs added: “Local neighbourhood policing teams are raising awareness of the importance of strengthening the security of your home, outbuildings and garages so you avoid becoming a victim of burglary.

“During the operation, a number of different tactics will be used to pro-actively patrol crime hotspot areas and target known burglary offenders.”

As part of the campaign Police are advising residents and business owners to keep access to sheds and outbuildings as difficult as possible, by keeping doors and gates locked.

Amongst other suggestions they also suggest keeping tools locked away, reinforcing shed door locks and hinges, plus printing postcodes and other details on tools to make them less appealing to burglars.

As well as this people could also add security lighting in their gardens.

Police have also asked people to contact them if they see anyone acting suspiciously.

You can contact the Police via the 101 phone number, or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
