MINI mayors are set to take the plunge as Chesham's open air pool has its summer season curtain raiser tomorrow.

It's tradition for the town's mayor to be the first to take the plunge when the pool at the Chesham Moor Gym and Swim officially opens for the summer months.

But a busy schedule means Cllr Mark Shaw won't be swapping mayoral chains for swimming trunks for the celebrations at 10am.

He said: "I'm going against tradition - I've got about five different engagements to go to. I have some kids as mini mayors who are going to be jumping in."

The first of those engagements is to officially unveil Chesham Moor's newly refurbished gym, with state of the art equipment having been installed.

Cllr Shaw will cut the ribbon at 10.30am and free taster sessions will be available for the rest of the day.

Centre manager Danny Essex said: "I am pleased to say that Chesham Town Council are investing in the future health of the community to make wellness a social opportunity for everybody.

"Chesham Moor Gym and Swim is fast becoming a popular destination for society as a whole to improve their health and daily lifestyles."
