NEARLY a quarter of Marlow residents admit to pouring waste cooking oil down the sink - with over half unaware they will have to foot the bill if their drains become blocked.

A recent YouGov poll revealed 24 per cent of adults in Marlow are still putting waste cooking oil down the drain, despite the practice causing potentially costly blockages.

And while 59 per cent thought the water company would foot the bill, the reality is that any drain blockages within their property boundaries remain the householder’s responsibility.

Instead, Marlovians are urged to take waste oil to the household waste recycling centre at High Heavens near Booker, Wycombe.

The average household throws away a tea cup of waste cooking oil every month, with the discarded product able to be recycled into clean electricity.
