The woman, who lives on Newtown Road, answered the door to an unknown man who walked into her living room.
He kept her talking for about ten minutes and left, but afterward she noticed money had been taken from her purse and jewellery was missing from upstairs.
The suspect is a white man aged in his thirties, about 5ft 2ins to 5ft 3ins with a slim build.
He was clean shaven and the top of his head was bald with short back and sides. He was wearing blue jeans and a short sleeved top.
