CRIES of ‘Fore!’ went up around Marlow on Tuesday as the annual Mayor’s Golf Day got underway to raise money for charity.

Harleyford Golf Club played host to the 13 teams vying for bragging rights at the popular event, hosted by Marlow Mayor Suzanne Brown, which despite isolated showers went off without a hitch.

Around £3,500 was raised for Cllr Brown’s nominated charities – Age Concern and Marlow Rowing Club’s Fire Fund appeal, with a fundraising dinner held afterwards at the Harleyford club.

Cllr Brown said: "We had a very good day. The turnout was slightly lower than last year but mainly because it fell just after the Easter break.

"It was an enjoyable friendly day with lots of laughter, particularly concerning some of the standard of golf, myself included!

"Everyone had a great time and we were lucky with the weather in the end. As well as the 56 players we had even more turn up for the dinner afterwards which was a fun evening.

"I would like to thank all the sponsors, the teams, those who made donations and for Harleyford Golf Club for hosting the event."

The winning team was Scorpio Electric who took home the Mayor’s Cup, with the best Individual man award going to John Hornsey and the ladies’ prize handed to Janet Allen.

Shanly Foundation, Gordons Solicitors and Harleyford Properties all sponsored a hole on the course for the annual mayoral sporting tradition.
