A WELL known face in the Bucks running world came in first at a 10k on Sunday.

Eddie O'Gorman completed the Bledlow Ridge Off Roader with a time of 38m57s.

He is a regular runner and often wins races in the area, and won this race last year too.

The 40-year-old from Princes Risborough who runs with Chiltern Harriers said he loved the race.

He added: "I try and win them all. I just run as hard as I can. But of course I wouldn't care if one of the others won.

"It is a great event here, particularly as all the money goes to the school."

The race is in its second year and starts and finishes from Bledlow Ridge School. All money raised goes to the school's charity.

There were 201 entrants in the 10k this year and they also introduced a 6.5km race, where 25 runners took part.

Graham Smith, 42, from St Albans Striders, came in second in the 10k with 39m41s.

He said: "Eddie's a strong runner. To come second to him is good.

"It is my first time here- it is a brilliant course."

Simon Sikora, from the Marlow Striders, came in third at 40m12s. He said: "I did it last year.

"It is a really nice course- lots of hills. It is beautiful- right in the Chilterns."

Allan Stewart came first in the 6.5km with a time of 26m12s.

He said: "I play more tennis. It is my first year here. My friend asked me if I wanted to do it a couple of nights ago.

"I have been doing tennis training and do park runs.

"I mainly race myself fit. I was pleased to win.

"I would like to see more people doing short races."

There was also a 1km course for children, and a new 2km course was introduced this year for nine to 14-year-olds.

A member of the race committee, Tom Tipper, said: "The weather has been dreadful all of yesterday and all of this morning.

"Literally at quarter to ten when the warm up started with the music the sun came out and the atmosphere lifted and it has been dry throughout the event."

The school is raising money for a new playground surface.

Heather Day from Barclays was there helping out as part of the bank's Community Investment Funding.

She said: "This is part of a match funding scheme. We will give them up to £1,000 match funding on how much they raise."

Since 2012 Barclays has contributed more than £60m to community investment programmes.

The money is still being added up but the event has raised in the region of £5,000.
