A FUNDRAISING campaign for a school playground hit the ground running at the weekend after a Marlow 10k race pulled in over £3000 towards the appeal.

Nearly 300 people turned out for the Danesfield Dash on Sunday, the second instalment of the scenic and multi-terrain 10k race at Danesfield School near Marlow.

In all, 182 adults and 93 children took part in the run, which featured a shorter 1k route for younger runners.

The fastest man was Luc Jolly of the Reading Roadrunners who completed the run in 36.06 and the winning woman was Karmen Pardoe who finished in 43.01.

This is the second year that Danesfield School PTA have organised the event, with PTA helpers joining forces Purple Patch Running, a well-established running events company.

Chris Wharton, Chair of the PTA said: "It was a great event. There were bluebells on mass in the woods which made it a scenic run. It was a sunny day and the weather held off, as it had poured down the night before.

“The conditions were muddier than usual and the additional challenge of the course gave people a sense of achievement. We appreciated people's involvement and look forward to next year."

Organisers now hope to make the event a regular fixture in the Marlow sporting calendar after good feedback from the first two races.
