WYCOMBE District Council will petition the government about HS2 to ensure the impact on the district is effectively mitigated.

Councillors at Full Council on Monday night agreed to submit the petition which was approved by WDC’s Cabinet last week.

The proposed HS2 route would plough through the Chilterns Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty, including a half-mile stretch in the Wycombe District.

The area to the north of the district around Princes Risborough could also be affected by the construction of the rail line, councillors said.

WDC Leader Richard Scott said the council - which has already committed £30,000 towards reports and work on HS2, with an additional £30,000 budget available - would keep a “tight rein” on costs.
