HEARING Dogs for Deaf People is asking the public to Paws for a Walk by taking part in a number of doggy themed sponsored walks across the UK.

Dog lovers and walking enthusiasts are invited to join Hearing Dogs for a beautiful walk around Wendover Woods on Sunday, May 11, followed by a picnic afterwards.

The walk is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is one of the highest points in the Chilterns, with stunning views over the countryside of the Vale of Aylesbury.

The walk will follow a trail through the woodland for approximately three miles and there will be lots of opportunities to spot local wildlife and birds. All walkers are invited to join Hearing Dogs for a picnic afterwards and of course, four-legged friends are more than welcome to join in the fun.

There will also be plenty of dogs to meet and greet.

The route can be quite muddy so walkers are advised to bring wellies and wet weather gear. Wendover Woods has ample parking (pay and display) and a cafe for hot drinks too.

The walk will start at 11am.

Lisa Bishop, event organiser, said: "Paws for a Walk is a fun-filled walking event for all the family, whether two legs or four. We hope to see lots of friendly faces and wagging tails on the day and for those walkers without a four-legged friend to bring along, there will be plenty of adorable dogs to meet at the event.

"We receive no government funding and all funds raised from Paws for a Walk will help us to train more adorable hearing dog puppies who will grow up to transform the life of a deaf person."

Every walker who registers in advance will receive a free pedometer (while stocks last) and the top fundraiser at the walk will win a free hearing dog soft toy.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People offers life-changing support to deaf people, as each clever hearing dog is trained to alert to important sounds like the alarm clock, doorbell and fire alarm.

With hearing loss on the rise and one in six people in the UK suffering from some form of deafness, the charity is working to train even more hearing dog puppies than ever before. Each hearing dog offers their deaf partner more independence, confidence and companionship.
