CRIME is at a very low level in Princes Risborough at the moment, a police officer said.

Gary Churchill gave a monthly report at the Princes Risborough Town Council meeting on Tuesday night.

He said within the last month there were three thefts from motor vehicles, four non-dwelling burglaries, four incidents of shop lifting and two incidents of making off without payment (theft of fuel).

He said: "Crime is extremely low as far as I am concerned."

On May 24 police are holding a number plate security event between 10am to 2pm at The Bell Service Station (ESSO Garage), Bell Street, Princes Risborough.

PC Churchill also explained about a new scheme being piloted in Milton Keynes before rolling out to the Thames Valley. Facewatch helps tackle low-level crime by letting residents and businesses share images and submit CCTV evidence and witness statements to the police.

The Clear Car Campaign, where officers check people's cars and send the registered driver a letter with security advice if they believe there is a risk of break in, has also been running.

Last month they checked 1,028 cars and 25 people were written to. This month officers checked 1,085 cars and 12 people had letters sent out.

While they were carrying out these checks at Whiteleaf car park, they apprehended an offender, while another got away.
