MARLOW Mayor Suzanne Brown said she is "wowed" at the prospect of serving another year in the job after she was voted back into the office this week.

Cllr Brown was unanimously returned to the role for a second term on Tuesday as Marlow Town Council held its annual town meeting at Court Garden.

After a nomination from Cllr Ian Wernham for the popular figure to continue in her ceremonial position, a show of hands from all 11 of her colleagues cemented the decision.

Cllr Brown said: "Thank you so much for voting me in again. It is still a ‘wow’ moment for me. Thank you to all my fellow councillors for voting for me.

"I am delighted to have been re-elected as Mayor of Marlow. I thoroughly enjoyed being Mayor last year and hope that I can go on to achieve even more this year, especially in my quest to create a volunteer culture for all groups of all ages in Marlow.

"I look forward to the coming year with all its diversity."

Over 70 people packed into the Higginson Room at the Marlow Town Council offices to hear Cllr Brown give her annual report address to residents.

She said it had been an honour to represent the town at events such as Marlow Regatta and Swan Upping, after which she was nominated to become a freeman of the City of London.

Cllr Brown also praised the work of the council towards its ‘Vision’ for Marlow, which has included the introduction of a new Saturday bus service, a drive to eliminate plastic bags and litter and improved facilities at Marlow station.

And the Mayor praised residents and the emergency services for pulling together during the devastating floods which forced many Marlovians out of their homes in February.

She said: "Some of us may think it is all ok now the water has gone but a lot of people are not yet able to return to their homes.

"But if it had not been for everyone that came forward this disaster could have been even bigger than it was."

Cllr Brown singled out town clerk Annie Jones for her round-the-clock "stalwart" actions during the crisis.

As well as the mayoral election, Cllr Bob Johnson was unanimously returned to the position of deputy mayor for another year.

The philanthropic Freemason, who was also recently awarded the Freedom of the City of London, said: "Thank you very much for this opportunity to serve as deputy mayor for Marlow.

"I will continue to support the mayor Suzanne and do my very best to uphold my duties as deputy mayor."
