A SINKHOLE has opened up on a main road in Beaconsfield today.

The hole which Transport for Bucks has confirmed they are looking to fix was cordoned off this morning.

It is not known when the hole in Holtspur Top Lane appeared.

A TfB spokesman said: “This is a sinkhole. We currently have Ground Penetrating Radar going onto site to see what's going on underneath the surface of the road and we will make plans for fixing it after this has been done.

“Our Local Area Technician for this area is regularly checking it and we have coned off the area to make it safe.”

This is the third major sinkhole to appear in the county in just under six months.

A 30ft deep sinkhole opened up on a driveway in Walters Ash in February, swallowing a parked car.

Since then other sinkholes have been reported to the Bucks Free Press with a six-foot deep hole appearing in a Gerrards Cross garden towards the end of last year.
