GOOD neighbourliness was on display in High Wycombe after a community activist teamed up with Tesco workers to overhaul a family’s overgrown garden.

Stephen Boyes offered his services for free to the family in Beech Road after noticing their small garden was growing out of control.

He called upon the community team based at Tesco in High Wycombe to help de-clutter the garden – to the delight of the tenants and wider community.

Mr Boyes said: “It went fantastically well. We had five wonderful volunteers from Tesco and the final result really was stupendous.

“The change in the garden is really dramatic and will help on two counts. The first is the happiness it will create in the community – the family is really delighted, as are the neighbours.

“I’m co-chairman of the Neighbourhood Action Group, so the second point is that if you have an area that is run down it encourages a negative mindset so we hope that by clearing this area up, people will take pride in it.”

Tesco’s High Wycombe’s non-food trading manager Fiona Martin called the cleanup operation “fantastic” and was quick to point out the work the store does within the town – having raised £6,000 for Diabetes UK last year.

The store also supports other charities including Wycombe Homeless Connection, Child Bereavement UK and Wycombe Mind, with events ranging from quiz nights to volunteer work.

She said: “We get heavily involved in the community and we want to show people we are more than just a supermarket.”

If you would like to help the Tesco volunteers, pop into the store in Eden.
