Kind hearted chippy lays on banquet for pensioners
REGULARS at a Marlow outreach centre were treated to a slap-up dinner last week as a chip shop fried up a free fish feast.
Elderly Marlovians at the Age Concern centre on Glade Road received the delivery of fish and chips from Gav Singh and his staff from Marlow Bottom Fish Bar.
The charity-minded chip shop owner previously dropped in at Marlow Bottom School earlier this year to feed 80 hungry pupils.
Marlow Mayor Suzanne Brown, manager at Marlow Age Concern, received the delivery for users of the centre, which is one of her two nominated mayoral charities for the year.
"It was wonderful for Gav to bring the food, they love fish and chips. And it’s particularly good because they come in boxes so it saves us on washing up!"
Age Concern also benefitted from a cash boost last week when Cllr Brown accepted a cheque for £400 towards a new Age Concern minibus from Marlow Inner Wheel Club as part of the mayor’s fund.
The club lost its influential president Evelyne Philpot earlier this year, with the fundraising effort given a particular significance to the Mayor.
She said: "It was great that Inner Wheel raised the money, and it was very personal as it was Evelyn’s dying wish to donate the money towards a minibus for Age Concern as she wanted to raise money for everything with wheels.
"I knew Evelyn and this makes it even more special and personal for me."
