ONE of Marlow’s biggest employers is doing its bit to keep the town happy after it was named as one of the best places in the UK to work.

IT company Softcat, based on Fieldhouse Lane, was announced as the second best workplace in the UK Great Places to Work rankings.

Founded in 1993, the company moved from Wycombe to Marlow in 2004 and has built a tradition of employing university leavers through its graduate programme.

Managing director Colin Brown, who received the accolade alongside employees at a ceremony in London on Tuesday, said: "We take our employees’ happiness very seriously - in fact, we pin it at the heart of our operations.

"Every year as we hire more and more staff we strive to maintain the values with which we started in 1993 - to keep our employees rewarded and motivated, which in turns drives great customer service, and then the financials look after themselves."

Softcat has grown revenues from approximately £150 million to approaching £500 million in just the last four financial years.

It now has four UK offices in Bristol, Manchester, London as well as Marlow.

Hosting a meeting of Marlow business leaders this week, solutions director Sam Routledge said the company’s success is inextricably linked with Marlow.

He said: "We feel like we are part of the fabric of Marlow, and we wouldn’t want to leave here.

"There is a lot in Softcat’s DNA that is Marlow even though we weren’t born here."
