OUTGOING Mayor of Beaconsfield, Sandy Saunders, has said he greatly enjoyed his last year as Mayor.

He is now looking forward to working alongside Cllr Steve Jones and the rest of the council to help in the community.

He said: “During my period of office I have visited some beautiful churches, and enjoyed countless functions within Town, District and County, joining the Lord Lieutenant, High Sheriff and many Council Chairs at their Civic services.”

Looking back over his tenure, he added: “Perhaps my greatest honour has been to lead the Town together with our Town Crier, and our Member of Parliament and other civic leaders at the wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph to those of our residents who died in the Two World Wars and those more localised wars which followed, and reading the lesson during the service of Remembrance.

“The following day, saw me, again in Naval uniform, saluting the Memorial to the Free French submariners who were hospitalised in Beaconsfield and sadly died here from their injuries. “Earlier this year I attended too, the Commonwealth Flag Ceremony organised by SBDC at Capswood.”

Cllr Saunders will now continue with the council after finishing his year as Mayor.
