A GROUP of scouts are heading off to Japan after being given a second chance of attending the biggest event in the scouting calendar.

Seven members of the Misbourne Scout Unit in Great Missenden will be among the 30,000 people from around the world who will be attending the World Scout Jamboree in July.

They weren't on the original list to go to the event in Yamaguchi City - but after another group were no longer able to attend the Misbourne scouts were picked to go instead.

Scout Sian Evans, pictured second left, is among the Bucks group who are jetting off to the land of the rising sun later this year.

The 16-year-old Misbourne School pupil said: "We got second reserve the first time. I was a bit upset because nobody ever drops out of the Jamboree. They said it was very rare.

"One week I got a call saying they were taking us as another group dropped out. I just started crying, I was so happy."

Also attending will be Mathew Latham, Lauren Allington, Amber Cadman, Hadley Thomas, Finlay Wood and Jenny Savage.
