GREAT British Bake Off judge and Penn resident, Mary Berry, helped a charity shop celebrate its fourth birthday.

The TV cook went to Holmer Green’s Iain Rennie Hospice at Home charity shop's fourth birthday on May 14.

Mrs Berry mingled with customers and volunteers and happily signed books at the shop in Pond Approach before helping to draw the raffle, which raised £389.

Prizes included meals out and bottles of wine. There was also a tombola as well as refreshments and a birthday cake.

She said: "Iain Rennie Hospice a Home is a very worthy cause. It couldn’t run without the many volunteers and people who give so generously to the shops. This is a fabulous shop and I wish it well for the future."

More than 55 volunteers ensure the smooth running of the shop, which is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

Shop manager, Pamela Hughes, said: "We are really excited to be celebrating our fourth birthday. Mary Berry was lovely and we really enjoyed welcoming her to the shop, everyone was delighted to meet her. I would like to thank all our fantastic volunteers and the Holmer Green community for continuing to support us."

More volunteers are always welcome, particularly those who could help on a Saturday afternoon. Quality donations are also welcome and should be taken to the back of the shop during opening hours. People are advised not to leave items outside the shop when it is closed.

Each month the shop makes around £16,000 which goes to help the charity support local people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.. For more details contact Pamela Hughes on 01494 715929.
