A SCHOOL has been given planning permission to build a new theatre.

Wycombe District Council planning officers gave permission for the development at Pipers Corner School in Great Kingshill through their delegated powers.

The plans propose to knock down four existing timber classroom buildings and build a new 278 seat studio style theatre and drama/ dance studio with associated parking providing 32 spaces.

It is an independent day and boarding school for 530 girls from aged four to 18 and the application said the school has an excellent reputation for performing arts and has produced a number of talented artists.

The application said current drama and dance studios in the Cottesloe Centre on site are remote from the main Landau Hall, where performances take place.

There are no residential dwellings within the vicinity of the site, which would be affected by this development.

There is a public footpath, which runs along the northern boundary of the site, but the additional landscaping would provide screening.
