A FORMER doctor has been charged with rape and indecent assault in connection with alleged historical offences at Buckinghamshire hospitals.

Michael Salmon, of Park Lane in Salisbury, has been charged with five counts of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 16 and two counts of rape.

Police said the alleged incidents took place in hospitals - including Stoke Mandeville and the Royal Buckinghamshire - between 1980 and 1987.

The 79-year-old has been released on bail to appear before Aylesbury Magistrates Court on June 16.

The charges stem from the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Yewtree enquiry, which was sparked by revelations over the sexual abuse committed by disgraced DJ Jimmy Savile.

• Mr Salmon appeared before Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday charged with one separate count of rape and four counts of indecent assault of a female.

They relate to incidents at various hospitals in the Aylesbury area between 1972 and 1985.

A provision trial date has been set for January 5, 2015.
