AWARDS were handed out this week for the quality of pupils' art, which had been displayed in a library.

Work from a portrait painting workshop at Princes Risborough School, headed by local artist Peter Keegan, had been displayed in the town's library this month.

West Wycombe Decorative and Fine Arts Society sponsored the workshop and helped judge the work.

Chairman, Eileen Gerrard, presented the prizes, which were won by Naomi Atherton for Best Portrait, in second place was Kaija Coates and third, Molly Hitchcock.

At the presentation, Peter Keegan told students it was this type of project and competition that launched his career as a professional artist.

He emphasised how important it is for young people to have similar opportunities to experiment with different styles and to be able present their work to the public.

The portraits will remain on display until tomorrow.
