OSCAR-winning movie directors of the future can now get on the road to industry success with a free online course from the home of British film.

Pinewood Studios has teamed up with The Open University to launch the course, which explores the creative processes and business skills required when making movies.

Budding directors and producers will be able to draw on the expertise of Pinewood, the home of the British film industry based in Iver Heath, combined with the university’s knowledge of distance learning.

Ivan Dunleavy, Chief Executive of Pinewood, said: “In addition to investing in our world leading studio facilities we are committed in investing in people and providing opportunities for all to work in one of the most exciting and vibrant sectors of the economy – the film industry.

“This course will do just that, further taking the Pinewood brand globally and providing valuable insights to anyone who would like to work in the creative sector.

“We are delighted to be partnering with a University that has such a strong track record of developing new and emerging technologies to engage with students.”

The course will launch on FutureLearn.com, the Open University-backed platform for free online courses.

Available free of charge to anyone around the world, the new course will focus on the business aspect of the film industry, offering learners the opportunity to find out more about the commercial aspects of the film industry.

The new partnership was unveiled today at The Technology Innovators Forum in Qingdao, China, which brings together leading creative and innovative industries from around the world.
