MARLOW Rowing Club received a boost towards the rebuilding of its club house after a High Street bank chose the cause from a nationwide list to receive its community funding.

Santander, which awards charity funding to nominated charities each month, picked the fire-hit rowing club to benefit from its monthly £5000 gift.

Marlow Mayor Suzanne Brown's nominated charities for last year included the riverside club and its bid to replace the clubhouse which burned to the ground in 2011.

She said: "Santander nominate a charity each month nationally and one of the questions is how many people will it help, and the new watersports centre will help Paralympic rowers and ex servicemen who have lost limbs so that was a factor."

Marlow Rowing Club’s new state-of-the-art Watersports Hub is due to be completed in the autumn.

It will act as a national centre for para-rowing after recently being recognised by British Rowing, with the club hoping to build on its Paralympic success after member Naomi Riches took gold at London 2012.
