AN application to vary conditions for a Tesco store in Bourne End - which is currently under construction - has been deferred by a council.

The supermarket giants asked Wycombe District Council for permission to make alterations to the store in The Parade.

Tesco wants to add an ATM and two doors, reduce the size of one door, simplify the design of the roof, change the windows on the upper floor and relocate the vehicular access to a ‘more central location’ on the site.

But WDC’s Planning Committee last night deferred the plan to investigate whether the proposed new access to the car-park could be made wider.

Jim Penfold, chairman of the Bourne End Residents Association, said: “If you are mixing heavy good vehicles with the public it needs to be done in the safest way possible – I don’t think that is the case here.

“This is much tighter than the original plans they had approved by the council. We are unhappy about this and want Tesco to stick by the original plans.”

Planning permission for the controversial food store, which will also have four residential flats above it, was granted by WDC in July 2011.

The build is already well under way but the opening of the Tesco Express store could now be delayed by this latest planning twist.
