MORE than 1,600 children embraced World Cup fever at the weekend as they competed in the Flackwell Heath ‘Festival of Football’.

The annual Flackwell Heath Minors FC tournament was held over two days this year as around 200 teams took part.

The Flackwell Heath club invited a variety of teams to take part in this year’s tournament.

The youngest participants represented the various clubs under 7s teams.

The oldest competitors played for the Under 15s with the Under 9s and above all playing for a league trophy.

The competition which organisers say is ‘probably the best in the world’ is also one of the biggest children’s football tournaments in Bucks.

Chairman of Flackwell Heath Minors FC, Declan Breen, said: “All the boys and girls who took part really enjoyed the event and although the weather has been a massive bonus we couldn't have done this without the fantastic support of all our coaches, families, friends and sponsors."

As well as the football there was a bar, barbeque, tombola and much more entertainment.

The competition started in the morning on Saturday, May 31, and ended the following day.
