BEKONSCOT has been under the microscope for the last 85 years with the model village having many links to fame and celebrity.

Many famous faces have appeared next to the small houses and people of Bekonscot whilst many literary pieces have been based on the area.

As well as the likes of John Nettles most famous for playing Tom Barnaby in Midsomer Murder, celebrities including Anneka Rice have also been known to visit the tourist attraction.

However, Bekonscot’s most infamous tale has to be its involvement in Enid Blyton’s, The Enchanted Village.

The Famous Five author, whose own Beaconsfield home is included in the Bekonscot scenery, was a close friend of Rolland Callingham, the village’s founder.

In the Enchanted Village, the author wrote: “Would you like to come with me and visit a village so small that you will tower above the houses?

“Would you like to know what it would be like if you visited Fairyland, and felt like a giant, because everything was so tiny and the people hardly came up to your ankles?

“Well, I live quite near to a little village like this – it is so close that I can see it from my bedroom window. Shall I take your there? It’s a real village called Bekonscot, and it is in the town of Beaconsfield.”

In honour of Enid Blyton the team at the village recently acquired a sundial from her house which they will hopefully mount near the Enid Blyton house soon.

AS part of Bekonscot’s anniversary celebrations the BFP is presenting a month-long special looking back over the past 85 years of the model village.

Over our next two editions we will be featuring a different part of Bekonscot’s illustrious history.

Read next week to find out about one persons special memory of the model village.

Bekonscot will officially celebrate being open to the public on the weekend of August 9.
