A KIND hearted pub landlord helped to promote a football academy set up in memory of an Amersham teenager at a community event.

Nearly £250 was raised to help the Aaron West Goalkeeping Academy during the annual Little Chalfont Village Day on Saturday.

Volter Nazzaroli, the landlord of the Sugar Loaf, asked Aaron's mother Dax West if she wanted to use his pub to promote the academy and tell his story to residents.

The academy has been running for the last three years after it was set up as a lasting tribute to football-mad Aaron, who died from a rare form of cancer aged 16.

Mrs West said: "With the generosity of the people I raised £238.33 on the day. It was a brilliant day and I met so many people. It was a real community event and I was proud to be part of the day."

The following day Mrs West helped present a player of the year award at a presentation day at one of Aaron's former clubs, King's Church FC.

The award was presented to the club's U16 goalkeeper George Hall, who received the trophy from Mrs West and Lisa Welling from the Berks and Bucks Football Association.

Mrs West said: "George came up and said to me later he was really proud to have received the award and, if it was not for Aaron, goalkeepers would not be recognised as an important part of the team It was an emotional day but a proud day for me as his Aaron's mum."
