A FLOWER festival marking the centenary of the First World War opens to the public next week.

St John the Baptist Church, Little Marlow is holding its colourful bi-annual festival on the weekend of Friday, June 20 to Sunday 22, with the theme named as ‘Lest We Forget’.

A preview evening at the picturesque 13th century church will take place on the Friday, with music, canapés and champagne.

Organiser Wendy Osborn said: “This should be particularly pleasant surrounded by the glorious flowers. There will be canapés to nibble and music to delight, in a lovely and unique setting.”

The festival will then open from 12 noon to 6pm on Saturday and on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm, with cream teas available on both days.

The 800-year-old grade II* listed building on Church Lane is part of the Marlow Team Ministry, which includes All Saints in Marlow and St Mary the Virgin in Marlow Bottom.

The idyllic setting has appeared on TV numerous times in shows such as as Poirot, Miss Marple and Lewis.
