A MAN has died after a collision involving a HGV and a van on the M40 near Stokenchurch this evening.
Police were called to the fatal collision between the M40 junction 5, Stokenchurch, and junction 6, Watlington at about 7pm tonight.
Junctions 6 to 5 southbound are currently closed and are expected to remain closed for approximately three hours.
The driver of the van was announced dead at the scene.
There is significant congestion on the M40 and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Signposted diversion routes via the A40 are currently in place.
Officers are currently examining the scene and then the vehicles will be recovered.
Sgt Carl Kneale, from the Joint Operations Unit for Roads Policing, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses who saw the incident or saw the vehicles travelling prior to the collision to speak to police.
“I would urge motorists to be patient and to bear with us. Although there are diversions there will be a delay so they should take an alternative route if possible.”
