THE High Wycombe Lions annual Easter Egg raffle raised more than £2000 – which has been divided between three south Bucks charities.

Giant chocolate Easter eggs were raffled off by 25 pubs from around the Wycombe area to raise money for the Lions’ appeal.

Of the £2000 raised, half of it has been donated to the Wycombe Talking Newspaper – which records and distributes large segments of the Bucks Free Press to the blind and partially sighted residents of the district.

The money will be used to purchase new boom boxes, which talking newspaper listeners use to listen to the recorded version of the BFP.

Charity chairman Ray Moorin said, “People whose lack of sight means they can’t read a newspaper can miss out on a great deal, and especially local news. Our service fills the gap and the boom boxes are key to that.

“On behalf of our listeners I would like to thank the Lions Club, and the people who bought the raffle tickets, for making this donation possible.”

The Lions also donated £500 to the Wye Valley Volunteer Scheme Mini Bus Appeal and £500 to the Wycombe Rent Deposit Scheme.
