THE champagne flowed as a former London stage singer celebrated her 100th birthday.

Elizabeth McManus marked her century at the Chesham Bois Manor nursing home surrounded by family, friends and some special guests.

Mayor of Chesham Mohammad Fayyaz turned up to her big day, June 18.

Also in attendance were daughter Sally, her grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Maureen Overend, manager of Chesham Bois Manor, said: "We arranged a party for her with her family and the residents of the home.

"The Mayor of Chesham came and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card.

"We got an entertainer in for the day and the residents all joined in.

"The family thoroughly enjoyed it and raised a glass of champagne for her."

Mrs Overend added: "She was a singer on stage and travelled round a lot. She spent a lot of time in London and had a lovely life.

"She's slowed down a bit but she's a character."
