A TAKEAWAY was closed down for a week after health inspectors found cockroaches in its kitchens.

Environmental Health officers from Wycombe District Council made the grim discovery during a routine inspection of Bucks Pizza in Castle Street on June 4.

Magistrates issued an Emergency Prohibition Order after an application from the council, which forced the takeaway to close until the pests were gone.

Bucks Pizza was re-opened on Monday, June 16, after inspectors were satisfied the immediate health risks had been addressed.

But the council warned in a statement: "We will be closely monitoring this business and will be inspecting them again in the near future."

Court records state: "There is no evidence that any effective pest control measures are in place and nothing is being done to prevent cockroaches accessing food areas or to control or eliminate cockroaches in food areas.

"There are accumulations of food debris throughout the premises that are providing harbourage for cockroaches."

Inspectors visited the takeaway on an unrelated matter after it emerged Bucks Pizza had not been correctly registered as a food business.

Its re-opening last week was conditional on the takeaway being registered with the council.

At the moment Bucks Pizza has not been given a hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency, but it will be given one following an inspection in the near future.

The Bucks Free Press approached Bucks Pizza to ask the manager for a comment but nobody has so far responded to our calls.
