CUSTOMERS cheered the arrival of a newly refurbished Post Office last week as the mayor arrived to cut the ribbon on a £14,000 overhaul.

The Oak Tree Road store has undergone a transformation since owner Nirav Vakharia took over last year, and now boasts longer opening hours and more counter services such as car tax.

Closed for two weeks for the refit, the proud shopkeeper said the changes have been welcomed by regular customers who appreciate the added convenience.

He said: "I took over last year and could see it needed a bit of a refurb. The finance was there already between the post office and ourselves and we were just waiting for approval before going ahead.

"Every single customer has said they are happy with the changes, it’s created a lot more space so there’s more room for customers and for retail space.

"We’ve put a lot more variety in place and create a one stop shop. They told us how much they missed us when we were closed. We want to make it easier for our customers, that’s what we’re here for."

Visitors will now be able to tax their cars at the Oak Tree Road newsagent outlet, as well as do their banking with the Post Office current account.

And as well as increasing the hours for the Post Office counters, the majority of the services on offer will now be available from the retail counter from as early as 6am seven days a week.

Mr Vakharia also oversaw the installation of an ATM machine, the only in the area, late last year.

Oak Tree Road is one of only three post offices left in the Marlow area, with another in Marlow Bottom and the new town centre office opening on Institute Road in 2010.

The new opening hours are:

  • Mon: 6am -6pm
  • Tue & Wed: 6am - 7pm
  • Thur: 6am - 6pm
  • Fri: 6am - 7pm
  • Sat 6am - 5.30pm
  • Sun: 6am - 1pm
