MORE volunteers are needed to help at a social club for people with learning disabilities.

The High Wycombe Gateway Club runs every Tuesday evening during term time from 7 to 9pm at St Michael's School in Daws Hill Lane, High Wycombe.

People with learning disabilities aged 18 and over from the High Wycombe and district area meet to socialise and take part in a number of different activities.

Volunteer Jackie Boyce, said: "We need more volunteers of any age, as long as they are reliable.

"It would help if they had an interest in helping people. They would be supporting the members to access a wide variety of activities including sports, drama, crafts, music and quizzes."

There are 82 members ranging from those who live independently to adults that need 24 hour care.

Jackie added: "It is rewarding. You make new friends and understand a different way of life.

"It is good fun and you meet lots of people from different walks of life. There is a sense of belonging."

They currently have 15 volunteers of different ages ranging from early 20s to late 70s.

Jackie, 52, has been helping for ten years. She said: "I do it because I find it rewarding and I like that I meet new people.

"It can be challenging but it is an evening full of laugher."
