A PHILANTHROPIC ladies club has ushered in a new president after its former inspirational leader died earlier this year.

Marlow’s Inner Wheel Club, which raises money for good causes in the area, installed Angela Churchill as its new president in a special ceremony last week.

Angela took the helm temporarily after popular figure and lifetime charity stalwart Evelyne Philpot lost her battle with cancer in March.

Club member Joan Clerehugh said: "She very successfully fulfilled all the plans and fund raising that had been planned for the year and the Members are grateful for the hard work she put in.

"Now President Angela is making her own plans for a year of fun, friendship, fund raising and service to the Community."

The social club, part of the largest worldwide network of women’s clubs, donated £3422 to local, national and international charities in the last 12 months.

The latest donation went to Riding for the Disabled at Widmer Riding School in Lacey Green.

It was a trip down memory lane for past club president Mary Sansom, a former horse riding instructor who has trained gold medal winners for Badminton Horse trials.

Member accompanied Mary to a teaching session at the school, which was helping girls from Alfriston School in Beaconsfield, a secondary school for special educational needs.

The horse enthusiast, who put forward the charity for a donation, made the presentation and gave tips to budding riders during her visit.
