A HAIRDRESSER hopes to help the town’s less fortunate to feel better about themselves after volunteering her services to a homeless charity.

Charley Simmonds, 28, cut the hair of a male visitor to the Wycombe Homeless Connection’s new Thursday night ‘plug in’ sessions.

The Wycombe mum-of-one offered her skills for free in a bid to help those who use the charity’s services find accommodation and work.

She said: “I have always been a charitable person - it’s just nice to give something and make people feel better about themselves.

“There was only one guy who needed his hair cutting this time, but he was very grateful and even fell asleep in the chair as he felt it relaxing.

“I’ll be going back down there but told them that I would be willing to cut their hair outside of the Thursday slot if they had a job interview or something, as I would want someone to help me if I needed it.”

Heather Morley from the connection praised Charley’s selflessness and called on other residents to lend their skills to the charity.

She said: “We have a new Plug In at The Hub session on a Thursday night to give people a bit of rest bite so they can come in, shower, chat to the volunteers and take a bit of time to relax.

“Thanks to Charley they can also have their haircut, which is a welcome addition as it may make that difference between someone being successful with a housing application or a job and not getting it.

“We would be very interested in talking to anyone who has a skill that could help us – but we also need general volunteers to help out with fundraising, administration and communications tasks.”
