RESIDENTS planning to clear out household junk will need to look elsewhere to dump it later this month as the High Heavens waste centre closes for works.

The Household Waste Recycling Centre in Booker will close for road surfacing work on July 19 and 20, and will re-open the next day.

Instead, recyclers are asked to use the nearest alternative site, including centres in Beaconsfield, Bledlow Ridge, Amersham and Chesham.

Lesley Clarke, Bucks County Council Cabinet member for Planning and the Environment, said: “We appreciate that many people take their rubbish or their garden waste to this site at weekends, especially during the height of summer.

“But these works simply have to be carried out to improve the new access road to the site which will make it easier for drivers to get in and out of High Heavens.

"We did look at carrying out this work during a weekday but this wasn’t possible because of the disruption it would have caused to normal weekday flow of traffic using High Heavens and to local residents.”

The alternative nearby sites are:

  • • Beaconsfield - A40 London Road, HP9 2XB
  • • Bledlow Ridge - Wigans Lane, HP14 4BH
  • • Amersham - London Road East,HP7 9DT
  • • Chesham - Latimer Road, HP5 1TL
  • • Burnham - Crowpiece Lane, SL2 3TG

The High Heavens work is being carried out because of the development of the new Waste Transfer Station, for which a new junction and widened access road is necessary.
