AN OVERHAUL of Marlow’s car parking system will begin this weekend, with barriers being erected in the first of the town’s car parks.

Court Garden car park on Pound Lane will switch to the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system from Saturday.

The system, operated by Wycombe District Council, works by reading number plates as they enter and exit car parks and automatically calculates how long vehicles have stayed.

After a successful trial in High Wycombe, it is set to be rolled out across all WDC-run car parks in Marlow, with the exception of Riley Road and Dean Street.

Work will begin on West Street, Central and Liston Road car parks during the week beginning July 21, WDC has confirmed.

Drivers can make payment by cash, credit card, via the internet or on their mobile phones, with the council hopeful parking tickets will become a thing of the past.

Tariffs will remain the same once the system has been installed.
