COUNCIL bosses are looking for residents' views on how to make homes in the district more environmentally friendly.

Chiltern District Council launched the consultation of residents this week, asking for their views on what they would like to see to make new and existing properties greener.

Results from the survey will then be fed into the authority's housing plan for the future, known as its Core Strategy.

The consultation will be part of the Sustainable Construction and Renewable Energy Supplementary Planning Document - with councillors urging residents not to be put off by the plan's tongue-twisting name.

It looks at a range of measures which need to be considered in building new houses and schemes to improve already existing homes.

These include solar design, reducing water use and incidents of pollution, air quality, reducing noise and waste, looking at preserving and enhancing biodiversity as well as using renewable and low carbon energy technologies.

Cllr Graham Harris, cabinet member for sustainable development, said: "I urge people and businesses to respond to this consultation. Many of the natural resources on which we currently rely are finite and we must find ways of building homes, as well as updating existing properties, to make them sustainable and energy efficient."

Full details can be found by going to www.chiltern.gov.uk/sustspd or the customer service reception at the council's offices in King George V Road, Amersham, during normal working hours.

The plans will also be available to view at the libraries in Amersham, Beaconsfield, Chalfont St Giles, Chalfont St Peter, Chesham, Great Missenden, Hazlemere and Little Chalfont.

Responses to the consultation need to be submitted to the council by 5pm on Monday, September 8. For more information contact the Planning Policy Team on 01494 732268 or planningpolicy@chiltern.gov.uk.
