FALLEN First World War heroes of Beaconsfield will be remembered and honoured by the town in a special commemoration day next month.

To mark a century since WWI started there will be a parade through the town and a church ceremony in which the 80 names on the Beaconsfield war memorial will be read out and a candle lit for each one.

Personal details about Beaconsfield’s war heroes will be read out, but organisers are appealing for more information about six of the troops.

Information about W E Clarke, W Dods, B Pell, S Smith, F Stevens and E Webb is limited and the WWI Centenary Working Group is appealing for help in finding out more details.

Beaconsfield Society member Kari Dorme said: “It's important at the centenary of WWI to honour our own Beaconsfield First World War heroes and we will remember them at the war memorial and in church on August 3.

“There are 80 names listed of those that died for their country and on that day we will read out their names.

“For most of them we have details of their rank and full name, age when they died and where.

“However there are six names for whom we no information. It would be wonderful if a member of the public could come forward and tell us more about them.

“I feel it would contribute to so much to honouring them properly with all their comrades.”

A parade of Scouts, Air and Army cadets will be leaving the Rugby Club in Windsor End for a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial before the church ceremony at St Mary’s Church.

Afterwards everyone is invited to bring a picnic lunch on the Windsor End Green with music to be played by Chiltern Hills Brass Band.

The commemoration starts at 12pm on Sunday, August 3.
